BrainStorm Tutoring, LLC provides one-on-one, in-home tutoring & coaching in every school subject for every age, grades K-College. This includes reading skills, grammar, foreign languages, maths & sciences, and all standardized tests (NJ ASK, COOP, SSAT, SAT/ACT, AP, GRE, GMAT, etc). We also provide college applications coaching, financial planning for college, & more.
If you need personalized, private instruction, one-on-one tutoring might be for you. In this setting, a mentor comes to your home at a time of your choice for a lesson tailored to your needs.
The fee for BrainStorm tutors is fluid, depending on such variables as tutor pedigree, session frequency & longevity, etc. For the vast majority of our tutors, the rate falls in the $70-90/hour window. Call 201.84.STORM for specific rates, information, and/or a learning consultation.
Why BrainStorm?
WHY WE EXIST: To meet an otherwise unmet (but felt) need in the market for a local, relationship-driven, competent company with personality and youthful energy. To provide flexibility, compassion, and humor in an otherwise rigid, outdated, and humorless industry. To create life opportunities to students through academic mentorship.
OUR CORE GOAL: Enhance each student’s self-concept and self-confidence by building LIFE SKILLS through the medium of academic and arts-related training. Examples of life skills: self-discipline, motivation, enthusiasm for self-improvement, optimism, altruism, conciliation, generosity, time management, organizational skills, collaboration, good listening, eloquence. BrainStorm students are of every age: from age 4 (reading) to age 73 (Spanish), and almost every age in between! We encourage all our peers to be lifelong learners.
OUR PEDAGOLOGICAL SYMBIOSIS: That is, how our method creates positive momentum: We believe that life skills set the stage for academic excellence. Enhanced and focused life skills foment better academic results, which in turn feed back to promote many life skills: self-confidence, motivation, optimism, etc. {Cue positive cycle.}
OUR METHOD/CATALYST FOR GOAL ACHIEVEMENT: Relationship—specifically mentorship, a relationship in which each party is edified but one party takes the lead in directing the relationship’s growth. It is no coincidence that “mentor,” a word originating from Homer’s The Odyssey, shares the ‘men’ root with “mental”: a “wise advisor of insight and passion” is exactly what every good mind needs to be challenged for the better. As far as we are concerned, respectful relationship is the sine qua non of education: without it, no learning can take place. (Doesn’t that sentence make you wish you had studied Latin? We didn’t think so.)
